When Voľná developed precognitive sight, they turned her into a JunkieProphet and used her prophecies to lead the other "wayward" Deer Herds back to the Alvslog ways. Voľná's childhood friend, Tiszta, was betrayed by a snitch when she tried helping her and subjected to a CruelAndUnusualDeath as punishment. By the time Pokhot found Voľná, she was suffering from a drug overdose. Voľná's parents were subsequently killed in a "Calling the Terrors" sanction for their crimes, but their abuse and Tiszta's death caused her to turn to drug addiction to cope with her trauma. It took [[DontFearTheReaper Moon Ray Vaughoof]]'s intervention for her to snap out of her delusions and accept Tiszta's death, but her recovery was still a rather difficult and rocky one. No one complained when Moon Ray adopted Voľná as his daughter later on.

* Subverted with Adversus, the Grand Primeval goddess of Adversity and Misfortune. She has birthed two branches of children, the Adversai and the Efévresi; members of the former spread misfortune, conflict, and destruction, while members of the latter encourage innovation among divine/mortal sapientkind and oppose their mother. However, Adversus deeply loves all of her children and even encourages the Efévresi to oppose her, as encouraging the growth of sapientkind through misfortune and conflict is necessary if they want to survive future threats. According to Ergaleía, he expected Adversus to be angry when he inspired sapientkind to oppose her and build inventions to help themselves weather her disasters, only to find his mother felt [[SoProudOfYou quite the opposite]] and hugged him as a reward for his actions. The only children Adversus does not love are those who cause destruction without purpose, like Surtr, whom she wanted dead for his sadism and his actions against Cervidia.
* Defied by High King Kaldr. After adopting a then-infant Flœrð, Kaldr learned that his son is the central figure of a prophecy that would doom and destroy the Hoyklan Deer Pantheon, prompting his fellow deities to advocate for Flœrð's death and/or suppression. However, thanks to Luminiferous and Choice, Kaldr realized that what others wanted for Flœrð is part of a series of {{Vicious Cycle}}s that saw many Cervidian {{Trickster God}}s abused and shunned for something that's completely not their fault, and doing the same thing to Flœrð would make him not that different from High King Irminsul, who abused Temnobog solely for being born a GodOfEvil. Kaldr wisely decided to ScrewDestiny by raising Flœrð like his own son and defending him from deities who wanted to kill him, leading to Flœrð becoming a hero instead of the villainous trickster he was expected to become.

* Lucky Shot's paternal grandparents, both Unicorn nobles, were incredibly emotionally and mentally abusive as well as [[FantasticRacism unrepentant bigots]]. Their [[AbusiveParents parenting]] spurred their son, Lucky Shot's father, to [[DefectorFromDecadence run away from Canterlot]] and marry a common mare, who would become Lucky Shot's mother. To get their son back, they arranged for Tribalists to kill Lucky Shot's mother... but it [[GoneHorriblyRight backfired]] when the Tribalists instigated a bombing, killing both Lucky Shot's mother and his father while heavily scarring him. Lucky Shot's grandparents then took him in, hired the Striga family to transfer his soul into the body of a Unicorn colt to 'fix' his Earth pony genes, gave him a name he absolutely hated, and tried molding him into the 'ideal' Unicorn noble scion. Lucky Shot was so miserable that when robbers broke into his home, he ''begged'' them to take him away, setting up a chain of events that led to Lucky Shot's grandparents' crimes being exposed and them being arrested by Princess Twilight/Amicitia Sparkle. However, they also ruined Lucky Shot's life in such a way that death was inevitable... but luckily, he would gain a friend and "[[HonoraryUncle Uncle]]" in [[DontFearTheReaper Moon Ray Vaughoof]].

* Each of the Dark Purveyors' birth parents were horribly abusive to them as children, which makes their adoption by the [[GodOfEvil Four Terrors]] all the more relieving for them.
** Prince Dühroham Erobreseg's parents were warmongering [[AristocratsAreEvil nobles]] who treated their son like a weapon, and groomed Dühroham for the role by experimenting on him and [[EmotionSuppression stamping out his empathy]] (though they didn't consider outright removing it, which Dühroham considers himself lucky for). Any failure on his part was met with harsh punishment. When Dühroham, through a chance encounter/fight with Blue Suede Heartstrings, [[HeelRealization started realizing that what he and his parents were doing is wrong]], his parents amped up the abuse, believing he had gotten "soft". Eventually, Dühroham [[RageBreakingPoint snapped]] and massacred the army he was in when he realized he was sent to commit genocide against a peaceful kingdom. When he is encountered by a sojourning [[WarGod Yarost]], Dühroham engaged him in a [[CurbStompBattle short-lived fight]] before breaking down crying and laughing over how he became a "monster". Dühroham's parents (and the rest of his native kingdom) met their ends in the following "Calling the Terrors" sanction, but their abuse was so horrific that he became an extremely ShellShockedVeteran who took a long time to overcome his guilt and psychological conditioning. Eventually, after Ascending to godhood, he proceeded to return the favor by punishing his parents' damned shades for their crimes, including subjecting them to the same experiments that they performed on him as a foal.

Voľná's parents were subsequently killed in a "Calling the Terrors" sanction for their crimes, but their abuse, combined with the news of Tiszta's death, sent Voľná deep into the DespairEventHorizon, turning to drug addiction to cope with her grief and alienating her adoptive family with her self-destructive behavior. It took [[DontFearTheReaper Moon Ray Vaughoof]]'s intervention for her to snap out of her delusions and accept Tiszta's death, but her road to recovery was still a rather difficult and rocky one. And when Moon Ray adopted Voľná as his daughter, no one complained since he is a ''much'' better parent than her birth parents were.

Her abuse was so much that when she died, Gossamer II was left psychologically broken. Even Monarch Wing, who suffered under Queen Gossamer II's rule, [[SympathyForTheDevil couldn't help but pity her in this regard]]. [[spoiler:During her BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind with Monarch Wing, Gossamer reveals she only sees Gossamer II as a "[[TheUnfavourite disappointment]]" and planned to use her daughter as a host body for her own soul after using Monarch Wing's as a temporary host. Fortunately, she is rendered DeaderThanDead by Monarch Wing before it could happen.]] After Monarch Wing Ascends as a Hippogriff demigoddess, [[spoiler:she reincarnates Gossamer II as an innocent newborn chick so she can be raised with genuine love the next time around]].

After having a prophetic dream about his unborn son potentially leading mortal Deerkind into a GoldenAge, Irminsul vicariously treated him as MyGreatestSecondChance, and persuaded his then-pregnant wife, Arvan, to let him "bless" their son with unparalleled compassion, purity, and virtue. What Irminsul intended to do was erase his son's inner evil so he'll be perfect and flawless, which not only killed the unborn fawn in-utero, but irrevocably divided him into his good and evil halves. Irminsul tried making up for this by [[ParentalFavoritism lavishing the pure Belyolen with love and praise]] while abusing Temnobog for being born 'evil', despite Temnobog not doing anything to deserve it. Come the "Final Ragnarok Crisis", [[spoiler:Bogolenya emphatically disowns the Elternteil Deer Pantheon as his family right after Symvíosi fuses Belyolen and Temnobog together to fight High King Ragnarøkkr, and names himself after the Bogolenya Deer Pantheon to separate himself from Irminsul's ambitions]].

In ''Fanfic/CodexEquus'', there are several bad parents to counter the number of GoodParents on the titular world.

* Subverted with Temnobog himself - while he embodies Deerkind's Evil and thus is no loving parent by normal standards, he really loves his children in his own way, even though he does encourage their innate evil as per his nature. He was really heartbroken when four of his children betrayed the family to either side with Ispita after she became a Fallen goddess, or commit heinous crimes that even Temnobog wouldn't approve of, but he still had to punish them according to their actions. So those who sided with Ispita were devoured and slowly digested, while the others were stripped of their powers and identities, and reduced to immortal playthings for the siblings that remained loyal to Temnobog. And while the Four Terrors commit very heinous acts in the name of their father, it's for [[GoodNeedsEvil altruistic reasons]] and they absolutely adore Temnobog, [[SoProudOfYou and he feels the same way]].

* Emperor Blackthorn, being the counterpart of Empress Blackrose in almost every way, is a horrible parent. When one of his First-Spawn sons, King Rhyniognatha, engineered what was called "The Fratricide" in an attempt to remain his father's sole favorite, Blackthorn sealed him yet did nothing about the traditions of backstabbing and treachery that would be common among his sons and other Summer Court Changelings - while it's debated in-universe whether he let it happen to punish his sons' incompetence, root out the weak among them, or just plain didn't care, the fact is that he still let his sons kill each other in their bids for power, and even encouraged it. However, he still respects most of them, especially if they had proven themselves worthy, and is generally careful enough to retain most of their loyalty (mostly by letting them do whatever they want so long as they help him run errands, and avoid doing anything to make them resentful of him).

* The mortal father of Prince Touha, the Deer-Draconequus god of Lust, Passion, and Desire, was an abusive father in life. While he originally loved Touha and taught him how to play the violin, he started resenting how his son inexplicably managed to retain his beauty and vitality while he became feeble as he aged. He became so wicked and desperate that during a 'Calling of the Terrors' event, he tried emotionally manipulating Touha into sparing him by evoking their familial ties as father and son. When Touha refused and killed him anyway, he spent his existence in Pokhot's hell-fief stewing in his own hatred towards his son for robbing him of what he felt was rightfully his. Despite the mistreatment he received, Touha loved his father to the point of sinking deep into denial after killing/damning him, forcing Pokhot to intervene when his denial [[LotusEaterMachine goes too far]]. It was only after visiting his father in Pokhot's hell-fief and being forced to see how much his father hated him that he realized his father is too far gone to be redeemed, and moved on from his grief.
* Ispita is a genuinely abusive EvilMatriarch. Unlike her ex-lover, Temnobog, who loves and praises his kids for testing mortals with their innate Evil natures, Ispita only loves her children if they're loyal and useful to her and her plans. Notably, when two of her children, Kolektor and Dark Illustration, were defeated and/or killed, she reacted rather heartlessly, just shrugging and saying "Oh well, you win some you lose some" in regards to her latter son. She also viciously abused Cudnost for embodying Virtue and thus being completely resistant to her attempts to corrupt her, and has expressed the desire to kill her during a confrontation with her pure daughter in the "Temptation Unbound" crisis. The Four Terrors remember her before her Fall as a lustful and sadistic yet loving mother, but when she became a Fallen goddess and caused four of their own siblings to side with her, the Four Terrors were utterly heartbroken, traumatized, and enraged by her betrayal.

* The mortal parents of [[VainSorceress Queen Eclaira]] were rulers of a Third Age kingdom obsessed with beauty, fashion, and cuisines, and they bore children who were just as beautiful and fashionable as they. Unfortunately, when Eclaira was born mediocre-looking despite her efforts to keep up with her family, her parents proved to be emotionally and mentally abusive, showering endless disappointment on her for her apperance while doing nothing as their other royal children, their nobles' children, and their common subjects scorned, bullied, and abused her as well. Eclaira became a BigEater to alleviate her increasing misery, but that only gave her family and subjects [[YouAreFat more excuses to torment her]]. Eventually, Eclaira snapped from the abuse, and with the help of Overlord Vondur ([[HappilyAdopted who became her adoptive uncle]]), she gained the knowledge, tools, and skills she needed to become the 'fairest of them all' and unleash her long-awaited RoaringRampageOfRevenge against her foalhood kingdom for its mistreatment. Naturally, [[LaserGuidedKarma Eclaira's own parents would be among those who were devoured, their beauty magically drained to enhance the physical beauty of their abused daughter]].

* [[Literature/{{Matilda}} Mighty Valley]]'s biological parents were, in the words of the Terran Royal Family, "utter failures as parents in every conceivable way". They left her behind as a baby in the carriage she arrived home in after her birth, and they were hedonists who preferred to sate their own desires instead of looking after her. Her father [[ParentalFavoritism blatantly favored her older brother]], and spent much of his time [[FollowInMyFootsteps training his son to become a con artist like him]]. Mighty Valley's parents were also staunch anti-intellectuals, which triggered her PsychicPowers - her father punished her for reading by tearing up one of her books and forcing her to listen to a mindless radio show against her will, leading to Mighty Valley unconsciously making the radio explode with [[MindOverMatter psychic telekinesis]]. When her parents came under investigation by Grittish authorities, Mighty Valley took the chance to make them sign parental custody over to her teacher, Honey Bee, who had been a much better parental figure to her than them. This was declared by many InUniverse to be the one good thing her parents did for her, though it didn't save them from being arrested after they tried fleeing the country.

When she was born exceptionally beautiful and charismatic, her birth parents feared she would become as evil as Fallen deities like [[SatanicArchetype Morning Star]] if she didn't learn self-restraint, and indoctrinated her to always be selfless, humble, and loving to the point of psychological self-repression. This had ''enormous'' consequences later on, as Peínagápia eventually snapped from the pressure and everyone taking advantage of her love, transforming her into a demonic, love-hungry goddess and inflicting her with guilt over the thought that she became an irredeemable monster. After ALICE/Adelais died performing a HeroicSacrifice against the Desides (which in the process turned her into a demigoddess), she would be adopted into the Trimortidae by Audens Manes, who realized how badly her creators mistreated her. * Blue Goldstone's stepfather was of the emotional variety at first. While he meant well, he held traditional views on what the ideal stallion should be and strongly disapproved of Gold's 'wimpy' personality and foray into music. When Gold was afflicted with grief over his birth father's death and [[BrokenPedestal disillusionment in Blue Suede Heartstrings]], he showed NoSympathy and [[QuitYourWhining told him to "man up" and move on]], believing that [[MenDontCry stallions shouldn't cry]]. This only contributed to Gold's downward spiral into bitter apathy and depression, which indirectly led to his early death when he snapped out of it to [[HeroicSacrifice save a classmate of his from being sexually harassed by a gang of Greasers]]. It wasn't until after meeting Blue Suede Heartstrings in the Heaven-Realms and reconciling with him many years later that Gold finally gained the courage to [[CallingTheOldManOut call out his stepfather on his emotional abuse]]. After [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone some]] [[JerkassRealization reflection]], Gold's stepfather finally accepted him for who he is and was [[SoProudOfYou very proud]] when Gold Ascended to godhood.
