Chris X: How is Jin a Marty Stu? I believe last time, someone listed him as a Mary Sue, but to fix the gender issues, I had to change it into Marty Stu. But still... well why do people consider him a Stu/Sue?

Drow Lord: I was just about to ask that same question. I'm starting to think people just use that term to describe any character they don't like who happens to receive story focus...

Sue is really thought of as a bad trope isn't it? Well no it's not, and to claim a character you don't like as such is lazy and dishonest.

On Jin, well for one the plot is on him at the moment, for another Jin Kazuya and Heihachi are the main characters in the game, for another his mother was declared the chosen one. Any attention he gets in the game is justified. Thankfully he hasn't been pushed like Ryu has, and the new game, Jin's heel face turn and becoming his father, great idea, maybe we can tease Jun's return.

Also something to think about in terms of Jin being a Marty Stu is that he isn't an overpowered character. In my opinion Lei, Bryon or Asuka can be stronger, easier to use. Devin Jin on the other hand, sure, he's God Mode then, and meant to be as a SNK boss, but he's really not any worse than Jinpachi, or Kazuya and Devil.

Chris X: It has come to my attention that people believed Toshiyuki Morikawa is the voice of Kazuya. I, too, used to believe that. However, after several researches, I think it has been proven that Toshiyuki Morikawa is not involved at all in Kazuya's voice. I shall give you the proofs for that:

  • In Namco X Capcom, Devil Kazuya appears and he sounds just like him in the games. Guess who voiced him? Masanori Shinohara.
  • In the Japanese Wikipedia, it is listed that Kazuya's voice is Masanori Shinohara. Toshiyuki Morikawa WAS involved in the Tekken voice actors, but as Hwoarang in Tekken 3. Since Hwoarang got English VA in the 4th game, and Korean VA in the 5th game forward, safe to say that Toshiyuki Morikawa was no longer involved.
  • Youtube the credits of Tekken 5... and see if Toshiyuki Morikawa's name is listed amongst the credits. His name wasn't there, but Masanori Shinohara's name is there.

With all those facts, I will have to conclude that Kazuya's VA since Tekken 4 is Masanori Shinohara, not Toshiyuki Morikawa. We've been... quite misled for awhile.

Of course, objections are always welcome.
