Samaliel: I'm changing the reference to the Intersect. The Intersect is the Magical Database, not something through which the database is loaded into Chuck's brain.

Broken Chaos: This show seems to be very polarizing - love it or hate it. Personally, I tend towards the 'love' side of things. It's a Troperiffic show, with a bit outlandish a plot, which almost seems to be the sort of world all us nerds would love to live in. It's not deeply thoughtful, but it's entertaining and fun. What do other tropers think of it?

Jordan: I didn't realize it was polarizing. I also lean towards towards the 'love' side, and I don't even get all of the nerdish references.

Broken Chaos: Have a look at the IMDB comments and it seems to be, at least. I haven't dug terribly deep into the internet yet, though, for finding opinions. ;P

Indigo: It occurs to me Reginald VelJohnson's appearance on the Christmas episode could also be seen as a Shout-Out to Family Matters as the same actor also played a police officer there. He's like a Pigeonholed Voice Actor except with the role of cop.

Danel: The eerie thing about that IMDB page is how all of the negative comments seem so formulaic: mindless ranting about how the show, and consequently NBC, fails on every level, with an utter lack of specifics. Weird. I've found that I'm liking the show more and more; while I thought the first season was entertaining but shallow, I liked the second season even more, and I've even found after getting the DV Ds for Christmas that the first season was a lot more fun than I remember it. I think it's the characterization that does it. I just wish there was more fic for it... and any sort of Bryce and Chuck friendship fics at all (rather than fics that essentially play Bryce as The Paolo or have him Die for Our Ship).

Broken Chaos: Agreed on the mindless. The most mind-boggling is the complaint that it's not 'realistic'. It's supposed to be entirely an escapist geeky fantasy, essentially. With lots of Shout Outs, predictable, but humorous, plot happenings, and some pretty damn fun characters. At leas that's how I treat it.

deaderrose: Anybody else think it's about time this show get a crowning moment 'page?' I think it needs one, but I almost never edit pages so I'm afraid of breaking the site.

Entity325: I am shocked and appalled that nobody seems to have noticed the escape sequence in the pilot is a blatant homage to Leito's introduction in Banlieu 13. Even the IMDB has no mention. Should this be added?

  • About the whole "polarizing" thing - I don't think the show is polarizing. It has a loyal fanbase, and a bunch of other folks who just can't understand what the fuss is about. By that definition, every work of art, including this very website, would be Love It or Hate It. It may case for Your Mileage May Vary - even among loyal tropers, there is disagreement about just how funny some of the gags are.

Wacky Meets Practical: Why is this page broken up into tropes for the show and tropes for individual episodes? I've never seen any other page for a show do this. It's completely unnecessary. It doesn't cut down on the number of tropes and it doesn't necessarily make it easier to navigate. And I'm sure there's a ton of duplicates between the two categories. In fact, I just had to remove a duplicate of Chekhov's Gun, because there was one for the main section, and one for the episodes section. And they even shared a specific subversion from the same episode. Unless anyone objects, I'll be working on combining these two sections into one long listing of tropes just like every other works page.

Shale: It's supposed to make the lists more readable in Trope Overdosed articles - it's also used for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the various Star Trek series, and Castle. Sadly, especially with shows like Chuck that are still running, it tends to lead to duplication like that.

Wacky Meets Practical: Fine, I'll accept that. But at the very least, I'm going to go through and delete the duplicates. And could we perhaps put a note at the top of the page telling people that there are two categories and they should look through both to see if a trope is there before adding it in themselves?
