Darkblade: Okay the same Evangelion is one series either it is meant for kids making the scary stuff Nightmare Fuel or it is not meant for kids and therefore the scary stuff is High Octane Nightmare Fuel. It can be one or the other it can't be both, yet it has pages in both sections.

Cassy: Is this the difference? I thought High Octane was "the same, but more" of Nightmare Fuel. Then I guess the whole page should be moved to / merged with the High Octane one, as NGE is definitely not meant for kids and not something a kid should be exposed to. Or even an adult, lol, *shudders*.

Darkblade: Maybe it says more about my lack of parenting ability but there isn't anything in the main series that I wouldn't show an 8 year old. The movie I'd avoid showing them and its unlikely that they'd understand the series as it is but I wouldn't consider it too really unsuitable for kids.

Cassy: No offense, but I think you're in the minority here. At any rate, I don't think it was intended for kids. I wouldn't say it's seinen, but I believe it's meant for older teenagers (15/16+?) and I think it's best appreciated as a young adult. Does anybody have precise info on this? (FYI, I watched it at 16/17 and both me and a few friends from the same age group found some scenes horrifying).

  • BTW: Some Eva fans lack parenting skills!? Seriously? (sorry, you can throw something at me now)

The Pein: I think it counts as Nightmare Fuel because of the Animation Age Ghetto. It was certainly not meant for kids, but that didn't stop western retailers from putting it on the kid's shelves anyway.

Cassy: Good point!

Wascally Wabbit: My understanding is that Evangelion was aimed primarily at teenage and later Otaku, as it is a self-criticism of them. Good point about Animation Age Ghetto however.

Pro-Mole: Since the main character and You Suck analogy is 15 years old, it's not far-fetched to assume that's the intended audience. Pro-Mole, on the otehr hand, was exposed to NGE at the tender age of 11, at most 12, and most of the Nightmare Fuel just passed over his young head. EVA 01 eating Zeruel? AWESOME! Asuka being Mind Raped by the sound of Handel's Hallelluja? A mild "woah", still AWESOME. Unit 01's eye regenerating on the second episode? Awesome, too. More like Fridge Horror...

Jack Felix: Meh. I was... 6, maybe 8 when I saw Evangelion. Guess What? Unit 01 eating an Angel, in the first episode I saw. Wow. Then I read the manga a few months ago. Some interesting points to discuss between people that watched Evangelion, some gore (cool) and that whole Tang stuff. Somehow, I find those Rei face pics creepier than Unit 01's face or even the EOE menu thingy (her face just looks... wrong). But yeah, watching NGE should be done in pairs, if only for the sake of insulting Gendo... and some other stuff. Oh, and... What is the red cross book, besides being a thing with a red cross painted on it?

Some Sort Of Troper: Hold on- Evangelion may have ended being shown to kids at some point but that wasn't the intent, wasn't it's primary audience that it was aiming for and certainly isn't the majority fanbase. Also, it was all entirely intentional, these are all meant to be things that would mess a kid up, it's about things that mess kids up.
