Pre-redirect discussion page: What Do You Mean Its Not Awesome Discussion

Phartman: Okay, so this applies to mundane events depicted in an impressive way, but what happens when it's supposed to be impressive, but works the Rule of Cool so hard that it ends becoming ridiculous instead of awesome, i.e. too ridiculous for Willing Suspension of Disbelief to adequately cover? It could be considered a Narm, I guess, but in my opinion, it's a unique enough situation to warrant its own entry.

Trouser Wearing Barbarian: It's definitely tropeable, although I'm not sure what it would be called. So Good Its Bad, maybe?

  • I figure "What Do You Mean It's Not Awesome?" would be more appropriate as a title for the "trying so hard to be awesome that it loops back over to the other end" situation... or you could just call it Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Grev: Removed:

  • This Speech regarding the 2008 presidential vote. Dig it.

...because those not registered at RPG.net can't see it. If it's on an unprotected site, we can sub that link and put it back in later.

Rissa: Would a link to a screenshot do?

Merc: Macademi Wasshoi! Episode 12 has an "epic" comic drawing scene. Think that should be added?

Almost all the examples are parodies - I think it would be more interesting to see a "played straight" version of the trope. Then again, it would only ever be played straight in very bad narratives, so perhaps that's too subjective or uncommon. Oh well. Somebody else can work it out - that's what wikis are for...

macroscopic: Removed spoiler tags for some Death Note examples. By the time the name Mikami Teru becomes meaningful to (or is even made aware of) the reader/viewer his role is perfectly clear so the tag was unnecessary.

Also, if the troper who put spoiler tags over Mellow's name could reasonably explain how eating a chocolate bar constitutes a spoiler I will promise my undying friendship and loyalty. Yes, really.
