Tanto: Apparently my argument against this was lost in the crash... Dark Link is still not that difficult. He can be easily cheesed to death with any number of weapons and strategies.

Redkun: Agreed. He's more like a Puzzle Boss than anything else. Once you realise that using the Megaton Hammer on the island or using the Giant's Knife result in guaranteed hits, the difficulty drops to nil. That One Boss is tough even if you have the walkthrough open in front of you.

Willy Four Eyes: PROTIP on the Wiegraf boss battle: I like to spam the hell out of Ramza's "Scream" ability early on in the fight to increase my speed to the point where I get three turns to Wiegraf's one, and then use the old "stick-and-move" tactic until the cavalry shows up. That pisses him off sooooo much.

  • Insanity Prelude: That definitely helps the solo part... It's when he transformed and started killing off my hard-raised party members that I finally went "fuck it" and started over. Sigh... twenty hours of my life wasted...

Boksha: Bloody Mary. Just. Doesn't. Make. Sense. Nevertheless I've beaten her several times without leveling up. It just requires performing the exact same attack sequence for 2 points of damage (3 if you're lucky and one of the two attacks is a critical hit type thing) over. And over. And over. Without getting hit.

Morganite: I'd call Brock from Dead Rising closer to an Anticlimax Boss. Fighting him properly is difficult, but there's a pretty simple way to defeat him without any risk at all.

Kimiko Muffin: And for those of us who have never heard of this "Alma", could you at least mention what game he/she/it is from?

Tanto: I wondered the same. Evidently it's Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox.

Tanto: Caulder mostly hides in the corner, in my experience. Yeah, he's broken, but the CPU doesn't abuse his powers very well. Sunrise is nothing compared to Final Front.

Later: To expand this line of thought a bit... you start at a much more advanced state on Sunrise. You don't have to do a lot of the "spread out and capture while simultaneously defending" actions that characterize a lot of the earlier Advance Wars final chapters. The challenge in the other games is that you're being severely outproduced in the beginning and have to close that gap while defending against being overrun, and that's difficult.

In Sunrise, you're basically exactly where you need to be at the very start of the mission. Capture a few Com Towers, build a few Bombers, and Caulder's dead as a doornail. You can beat the mission in under ten days, where the other games have these 25-30 day epic marathons.

Maybe it's just me. But I beat Sunrise on my second try and my first strategy, and Final Battle and Final Front required dozens of resets and reconsidering my tactics before I could finish.

Fusion Dragon: No, it's me too. I put it up there since I read all the complaining in the fan community. But since I have no real counter to your logic, I'll remove the entry in contention.

Insanity Prelude: You know, I was really looking forward to buying Devil May Cry 4. And now I'm sure I'll never make it through the game. D: TV Tropes has ruined my life. (Seriously though, is there a trick to beating Dante I should know before I dive in?) And does anyone agree that Replica Riku is undoubtedly Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories's That One Boss? Particularly in Riku's half of the game, when you don't have Cure cards. (KH 1's is very debatable. -Although Riku-Ansem would get my vote. Man, the unskippable cutscene before that got boring after a while.- KH 2... Mm, definitely Demyx. I'm not sure why people say Xaldin is so hard.)

Some Guy: A friendly reminder to everyone to read the whole page before making new entries. I just deleted a bunch of extraneous Smash Brothers data- there used to be two separate entries, both of which had sub-entries. On that topic, this page should probably be made easier to read somehow so that this doesn't happen so often. Alphabetical would probably work.

Some Guy: Well, I just went on another bender and completely reorganized the page...any thoughts, anyone?

Some Guy: I did the page over again- this time, I hope competently. I'm pretty sure the destruction I waged probably left a few weird empty links or something, though. Sorry I'm not computer adept enough to know how to fix them myself.

Lizuka: Where might one put Salamence from Pokemon Ranger? Steelix is also an arguable example, but that's probably more of a Guide Dang It! since you have to have tamed the only Sneasel in the game to beat it.

Trigger Loaded: Am I the only one annoyed at all the entries with "Actually, he's not that hard if..." or even the polite "What you can do is..." This is TVTropes, not GameFAQs. I would like to rule that this is an entry to describe difficult bosses, not an advice column, and thus all 'tip' entries be deleted.

Of course, maybe it's just me that gets annoyed at this, and TVTropes doesn't need such hardline rules. In which case, I'll respectfully bow out.

ninjacrat: I go through and delete 'em every few months. Then they fill up again. There is no force strong enough to stop a nerd from waggling his penis on the internet.

Trigger Loaded: Well, I tip my hat to you for putting in the effort. I'll probably start giving you a hand as well. I'm aware it'll likely be as effective as putting up signs to keep ants away from your picnic, but perhaps a note saying the above in the main page, that this is only to talk about difficult bosses, not how to defeat them. And especially not a place to brag about how easily you could beat them.

Steel Komodo: Same here, dude. I've just read some comment by a "Stop Having Fun" Guy who once again lauded about how cool Fox was and how easy it is to beat Boss Rush on SSBB intense mode. I almost put an entry saying "No-one cares", but realised this was a better place to put it.

So Yeah, It would be rather helpful if a "No TIPS OR BRAGGING" sign was put up. That way, we could clean up such comments and not have to worry about reposts.

Great Pikmin Fan: from a non-Mega Man player, made of win to who put that picture.

Zhi Ren: Guys, where did the That One Boss entry to odin Sphere go? It's vanished!

Wild Knight: A lot of examples are being removed for not being the hardest boss in the game or, in some cases, even series. While yes, the title of the trope is That One Boss, can it be agreed that the title is idiomatic and not completely literal, and thus allows for more than one "brick wall" boss (as I take the trope name to be synonymous with "brick wall boss")? The examples I'm thinking of - Baten Kaitos, both 1 and Origins - were removed and only Verus was left, despite the Holoholobird and Guillo being universally considered outrageously difficult - indeed, more so than Verus.

If it is actually preferred that the name be adhered to and there should be one boss per game, then pay no mind; this has just been bugging me.

Kitsunezeta: I'll kick off the argument for Final Bosses that blatently say fuck you to the difficulty curve and pound the living hell out of people who spend hours days weeks MONTHS preparing for them. Namely, I'll point to such examples like Guitar Hero III's Guitar Battle against Lou (which teeters on Luck-Based Mission)

I will make the distinction between Final Boss and True Final Boss, mainly because the latter is technically a Bonus Boss, which is another argument I really want to make, but I won't make it yet despite the fact that it alone resulted in wiping out 80% of the Rhythm subpage, including EVERY BEMANI ONE ON THERE. I personally draw the line at DLC, since they aren't part of "the game proper". in short: if people without an internet connection can get it (not counting MMORP Gs for obvious reasons), it should be a possible candidate. if it requires an internet connection to download "additional data," it probably shouldn't be considered.

Count Dorku: What precisely is the difference between a beat-em-up and a fighting game?

Caphi: Fighting games focus on technical play against a single opponent, beat-em-ups are more about, er, beating up large numbers of mooks.

Count Dorku: Thanks. I just somehow got into assuming that 1-on-1 also qualified for the name beat-em-up, since it's about beating your opponent up. I'll know better in future.
