Working Title: Planar Shockwave: From YKTTW

BritBllt: Down with the natter! Moving here...

  • The example given here is particularly ridiculous; if Excelsior was several light years (or even light minutes) from Praxis, the inverse square law means that for the shockwave to have appreciably affected the ship at that range, it would have been powerful enough at the point of origin to not only obliterate Praxis but also any nearby planets.
    • That's why it was planar, so it could conveniently miss all the other planets.
    • Because the shockwave was planar, its strength would have fallen as the first power of the distance, rather than the square. But yeah.
    • Also, it wouldn't look like a freaking tsunami either. I hope all the space whales got out of the way.
    • Also, it appeared to be going only a couple thousand miles per hour. Sigh...
    • Really, if it had been going much faster, the crew of the Excelsior wouldn't even have had enough time to register that it was going to be smacked in the face, killing a fair amount of dramatic tension.
