Our Angels Are Different launched as Our Angels Are Different: From YKTTW

Working Title: Our Angels Are Different?: From YKTTW

Lale: Do the Evangelion "angels" really count? I've read the creatures' name in Japanese is not the Japanese word for "angel."

Trouser Wearing Barbarian: "Angel" is usually "tenshi" (heavenly messenger) in Japanese, while the angels in Evangelion are called "shito", which just means "messenger." (Of course, the word "angel" itself also means "messenger.") However, "angel" is the official translation given by the creators, so it still counts, although it's more a case of What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic? than anything else.

It's also worth noting that the word "angel" (in romaji) appears in the opening credits, and the theme song, "Thesis Of A Cruel Angel", uses the word "tenshi" instead of "shito."

Trouser Wearing Barbarian: Should there be an entry for Haibane Renmei? The creator has said that the Haibane aren't angels, but their appearance is based off of them.

Lizimajig: I am removing the last part of the statement below ("but it's punishable by death") from the Supernatural section. It wasn't that Anna fell that marked her for death, but that she was now able to hear the angels, and this made her a huge target for demons and thus a liability.

  • Turns out being an angel isn't much fun either, being forced to follow orders from a god only four angels have ever seen not being able to get involved in worldly affairs without orders but only to watch. They can also fall from heaven by removing their grace but it’s punishable by death.

Joysweeper: Considering adding a Real Life example. My dad was a Navy pilot, and one unit of distance from the ground was "angels". Four angels was four thousand feet, for example. A cherub was a hundred feet. I may have misremembered how much for each. Would that fit on this page, or is this angels In Name Only?
