Working Title: Punchline Only Gag: From YKTTW

Fire Walk: OK, pulled some examples out of Filth. Was tempted to organise this by identifiable jokes, if we can find the common ones. ("Wrecked 'im?", "The man with the small piano" and "The girl from Nantucket" spring to mind). Also if there's some place we can link that has the build up to these jokes it would be pretty nice to use, without cluttering things up too much.

There is the line "Zooty, zoot zoot" which is quoted over and over in a number of Babylon 5 episodes (accompanied by tucking one hand under the opposite knee and gesturing), including one in which the comedians Reebo and Zooty, whose show first featured the joke, visit the station, without ever any explanation of the context or the rest of the joke, but which is considered by all the humans and several aliens to be hilarious.

Steve The Pocket: I like the idea of mentioning that there are three ways to do this — one is to use the punchline of a real joke, which makes little sense out of context; the second is to make up a fake punchline that's meant to be funny all by itself; the third is to make up a fake punchline that also makes no sense out of context, but is clearly fake and is funny for that reason — and then breaking up the examples based on which one is being used.

JET 73 L: I like to think that the naked lady with the poodle under one arm walked back into the bar because she forgot her pencil, showing that the naked lady with the poodle would otherwise have been completely unremarkable (having been in the bar already).
