Haven: Removed the bit about it being a "Discredited Trope" that is only used in humor and parody, as it is demonstrably untrue - unless you're saying that Serenity or Half Life are parodying the idea?
Anyone watched Eleventh Hour (the UK version staring Patrick Stewart - I haven't watched the US remake). The ads stated "meet Professor Hood. He's the man the government calls when science goes wrong". and When Science Goes Wrong, He Makes It Right (IIRC)
Count Dorku: Does this trope have an opposite? A kind of Gone Awesomely Right?
