Ross N: The new film, though a Reboot is not a Remake of the first film. The killer is Jason and Camp Crystal Lake has long since been abandoned.
Indigo: I wouldn't even call it a reboot. The story Wade tells his friends at the camp is a recap of the first movie, with a few of the details wrong — which makes quite a bit of sense given that it's probably been 10+ years since anything horrible happened at Crystal Lake, and the story has had time to just become a "scary campfire story". It just sort of picks up where the last one left off...with a heavy implication that putting Jason's body in the lake is what keeps him coming back.
