...to say "used" instead of "lampshaded." Because unless there's something else that the example isn't telling us, it seems to be used completely straight with no lampshading.
And removed:
"** Just to clarify for those who've never seen the show: the roommate wasn't trying to cover up his racism, it was just a goof he was pulling on Wallace."
...because that's what this trope is all about. If he actually was racist (and racist against Blacks as opposed to some other less expected minority) it'd be a subversion.
