- Subverted in Rogue-like games and "hardcore" modes of some RP Gs, where you can only save when quitting, and if your character dies, it's Permadeath. Of course, there's another theoretical extreme, what if the whole game destroyed/erased itself upon the character's death and you'd have to buy the game again for another shot? Hideo Kojima toyed with this idea for the Metal Gear Solid games for a bit, but decided against it.
