Tzintzuntzan: The Spider-Man comic did have Peter sell his photos to a different newspaper, once. It was kind of a Lampshade Hanging on why Peter always sells his photos to a twit like Jameson; the rival paper's editor is kind, intelligent, and pays well. But being intelligent, he also asks questions about how Peter managed to take pictures of Spider-Man without being noticed. Peter hastily decides that working for a nitwit like Jameson has its advantages.

Andyzero: Yeah, certain writers will try to explain stuff away like that. I still think that if he tried, Parker could get a better life for himself without "sacrificing responsibility."

Andyzero: Ack, that was getting too long, and was detracting from the point. I shortened it a bit.

Ununnilium: He's also *had* other jobs over the years. He was a schoolteacher for awhile, and I belive his current job with the New Avengers is a paid position.

Andyzero: True, but those aren't the quintessential Peter Parker/Spiderman roles. You won't see any of that in the movies, for example.

Osh: IIRC, this has been weakly Lamp Shaded by the explination that because he has to run around as Spiderman on a moment's notice he needs a job where he doesn't have his presence accounted for much. It's also why he's a freelance photographer. Though in the Ultimate Universe this has been sorta addressed since I think he's a webmaster for the Daily Bugle.

Crap! Wrong entry.

(random passer-by): This looks an AWFUL lot like a different name for No-Respect Guy.

Ununnilium: IMHO, the "Real-life example" is a bad idea. >>

Lale: I don't know about in general, but not the two that were used.

Ununnilium:

  • Will Turner is frequently belittled and sold out by Jack Sparrow and his crew in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, including being tricked by Jack into being enslaved by Davy Jones aboard The Flying Dutchman. To make matters worse, he has to watch his fiancee Elizabeth Swann give Jack a tonsil-tickling snog, not realizing she only did it to distract him while she trapped him on The Black Pearl in order to leave him to the Kraken. After all that, Will has no problem committing mutiny against Jack in order to serve his own needs in At World's End.

This doesn't seem to be this trope; it's just Jack who's a jerk, not the community at large.

  • Does Avalon Code really count? As I recall, they weren't picking on the Heroic Mime because he/she was different but becuase as far as they knew he/she was the only one who could use the book of Prophecy. Also the only other "real" (as opposed to the Jerkass Jerkasses that pinned the thing on you) was also a general for the enemy army.
