Jordan: Not that I don't believe it, but I completely missed that Severian was ugly. For some reason, I thought of him as being "aristocratic" looking and well-built, but kind of pale and with a look of death about him.
- Morven: I think Severian is simply self-deprecating; he is an Unreliable Narrator, after all. Your description of him appears to be accurate, from what I remember.
Jordan: Since there are others on the site who have read the series, does anyone get what the Guild of Witches is? While at one point, there is a mention of one of the Torturers going there for sex, which would suggest a Prostitute's Guild, other times they seem more like State Sec. Any theories?
