WesternAnimation Excellent cartoon, does some things better than LEGO Movie.
I highly recommend Spoooky Game, Birthday Blowout, Fire and Nice, Kitty Court, Little Prince Puppycorn and Rock Friend. Those were my personal favorite episodes - not exactly in that order.
What I Love about the Show
- Unikitty and Puppycorn are outright adorable, especially from their facial expressions in extreme situations.
- Lots of character development and irony which make for good episodes - especially when Unikitty who can be too optimistic, trusting of people, ditzy and naive or competitive but then she learns from her mistakes and learns how to become a better and wiser person (errr.... cat)
- Tara Strong!
- Improved on Unikitty's artwork than on The Lego Movie, especially on her eyes. They drew her eyes better.
- Unikitty and Puppycorn's healthy amiable relationship reminds me of how me and my sister were like when we were 6 to 10 but those were early to mid-2000s. She's gotten angry and bitter now, I don't know what happened to her. :(
- It's therapeutic. Unikitty! is quality deviance from today's death and revenge themed culture. Fictional works in America today are obsessed with death, revenge, weapons and war - it's completely desensitized current and new generations to violence because our movies and video games now glorify revenge and killing for revenge. Unikitty! makes excellent stories and characters and artwork without having to stoop to glorifying violence or "baby content" like Barney and Teletubbies. I enjoy Unikitty! even as a college graduate in my 20s working in the insurance industry. Before Unikitty! came out I mostly watched stuff like Terminator 2, Battle Royale, V/H/S/2, Olympus Has Fallen, Deadpool, Breaking Bad and called that my "leisure time". Unikitty! is what brought me back to Cartoon Network after my favorite shows Ed, Edd n Eddy and Kids next Door ended. I skipped watching CN for almost a decade until Unikitty! came out.
WesternAnimation Cute...and that's it.
Unikitty is another of those 'whimsy' shows we're getting in 2010s. Super upbeat main protagonist, simple but smooth and fast animation, bright colors. I'm pretty sure kids like it.
But if you want ANYTHING more, it's not here. It's not clever or deep, never dramatic, characters aren't memorable beyond being cute I(mainly Unikitty and her little bro Popcorn), it's not even all that funny. It might sound like I'm demanding Lego Movie quality, but I genuinely got bored with predictable stories really fast.
There are plenty of more complex 'adorable' shows out there. Star Vs Forces of Evil, Steven Universe, Adventure Time. But if you're looking for the closest match, I highly recommend "Wander Over Yonder".
