Videogame The pros of popularity power
We all first person shooters, we all know free to play. Most people would think "bad combo, right?" Not exactly. For the free steam version, it's quite satisfying to have a game that says "free to play" and isn't shoving "you need money" in your face every 3 seconds in the middle of gameplay. Let's start negative.
Cons: Slow to start if you're not going to be dishing out money to buy those weapons. Character customization is locked off for the first part of the game, fair as with other FPS, but once it does open up you need a bit of levels to really get a custom class you want to call your own. This can get a bit frustrating after you've found out what you want in a class because of all the fun options you get in the game. Not just "more sprint" or "faster switch time" like in Call Of Duty multiplayer, which are practical and fit in with the game, but some really unique options are offered in Impostors. Having all of those out of reach for the first few hours can be kinda offputting.
Pros: It's a solid shooter, for a start. You may see this game as a glorified FPS with the batman franchise slapped on top, but don't be fooled: The game is thought out and unique. It may not be perfect to some, but it's very good all around. The best part are the fun options you get. You don't just have "first weapon, second weapon, grenade" like a standard affair. You have "First weapon, second weapon, grenade or maybe a beartrap, then do you want to fly or turn invisible or just hookshot all around?" These aren't your standard sets. The options for mobility and attack styles are really mixed up in this game, and it makes it refreshing.
The best thing that can be said about the game is that none of the modern FPS problems are encountered. Sniper sitting in a hard to reach area? Well, you can tag them so they're visible through walls, or maybe use a glider to divebomb them from behind, use a hookshot to jump up from below or above the kill zone and shank them, turn invisible so they can't see you and get behind them. The options in this game are the best part of it, and it's hard to find a stagnant game with all the movement and tricks being used.
I woudl recommend it if you want something that unique and mobile, or just want a quality free shooter.
Videogame Wasted potential, but still entertaining. (Updated)
I played Gotham City Impostors since 2017. It's a fun game that was free to play but I feel like they could have done more.
The Good:
The combat system in this game was actually really balanced compared to most Arena FPS. No weapon is automatically better than the other, and there aren't "improved" versions of them so you basically just have to find your niche. The combat itself is especially nice, all things considered, and really makes sense since Batman did use guns at one point in the old days.
The premise was also entertainingly fun. Yes, its Black-and-Gray Morality, but the anti-hero shenanigans of the Bats is just loveable to the nth degree and good god do I love the the Black Comedy this game has to offer. It's clear the Bats are not 100% good guys but it sure as hell is hard to not laugh at their antics. Plus, who's really gonna miss the Jokerz?
But the best part is the costume making for the characters; good god this game does not disappoint when it comes to the clothing customization options for the characters. Aside from allowing you to dress up as Batman or the Joker, they even tackle other genres like Pirates and Ninjas (the latter which is fitting given the animated series episodes, "Night of the Ninja" and "Day of the Samurai"). If you wanted to unlock everything, you'd literally just have to spend $30 on the ultimate pro pack.
The Bad:
They really messed up when it came to adding content to the game. They could have done single-player campaigns, co-op team missions, more story exclusive stuff (maybe with Heath Winslow, who instigated the two factions)...alot of missed opportunities there.
Another thing is lack of customization when it comes to the characters themselves. Literally the only female character is the "Nimble" and they only get two canonical voice packs per team which is just downright lame; truthfully they should have let you switch genders with any body type. Skin color selection isn't an option and you only get 3 face types (which cannot be customized), which is kinda weird considering the animated shorts showed stuff regarding that that was never in the game but should have been in the game.
Infact, the animated shorts showed alot of stuff like miniguns and whatnot that should have been in the game...and why they didn't seize that opportunity is beyond me. I guess not enough people playing the game, which is fair enough...but still...disappointing.
Conclusion:
It's not a bad game...but it didn't get enough love to warrant anymore stuff which is unfortunate. On a scale of 1 to 10, this would get a 6.5 atleast. A highly underrated gem, and sadly one that will remain lost as it has gone offline for good.
