I picked this book up in a store a few years back with the intentions of finding a fun sci-fi Door Stopper to keep me entertained for a bit, but I have to say that this has probably become my favorite book along with is sequel.
Despite its size (my copy is 988 pages long), the plot managed to suck me in, and it didn't take too long to read. The formidable cast of characters keeps it all moving and the plot itself is pretty awesome, especially the Ozzie/Silfen bits.
The only problems I can think of are:
Peter F. Hamilton loves to remind us that concrete in The Commonwealth is enzyme bonded.
Some of the more politics-heavy bits are dry, but at the very least I feel that they are necessary... somehow.
