I want to start out by saying that I find Snape/Hermione squicky, awkward, and often very badly written.
This fanfiction is brilliant, well-written, and absolutely fantastic.
The fic takes place ten years after the events of the book, circumventing any potential squickiness from readers (like me) who find pairing a teenage Hermione with a much older Snape rather problematic. Snape is still deeply affected by the events of the books and isn't a perfect love interest by any means, but they work together. Almost all of Loten's characterization is spot-on, if slightly flanderized at times, though I think she gives McGonagall too little credit and crosses into Ron The Death Eater territory there. Other than that, I literally have no other criticism. The backstories are done incredibly well, they are consistent, and somehow Loten manages to create a perfect AU that is also almost exactly in line with the books, since her grasp of canon is unparalleled.
I recommend this for anyone who's unsure of Snape/Hermione - it certainly converted me.
