FanficRecs Interesting Concept, Trashy Execution
It's a shame, I personally wouldn't mind reading a fanfic where L turns evil (more than he already is, that is), but the execution leaves much to be desired. There are too many plot holes, L and Light are mutated into Possession and Villain Sues (seriously, why would the Shinigami King give them immunity to the Death Note, if indeed he even has the power to do that? And why the hell would L kill all the kids at Wammy's [never mind HOW the hell he could have pulled that off], but let Mello and Matt live?), L's fall from grace is in itself out of character for all parties, and it seems to me that the author was more focused on her favorite ships (L/Light, Matt/Mello) than on actual plot.
Not to mention, the Misa-bashing has gotten quite stale in this fandom. Matter of fact, she probably would've made things more interesting if she'd joined the two of them.
There's a part of me that wishes she'd pick this back up again, if only to see how she would straighten this out. I'd love to see something like Sayu and Halle and Soichiro putting these two in their place, or maybe the whole thing would be an act L put up to finally expose Light, and Matsuda, Mello and Matt were all in on it. Something like that.
But maybe it's for the best that it's dead. What a waste.
FanficRecs Horrible ooc characterization
I saw this on the recommendation page and thought it would be interesting, but reading this was truly disappointing. Everybody is completely out of character, with L easily agreeing to join Light and Matsuda supporting him even after all of his teammates had just been murdered for him. This could be a good fic, but the execution was absolutely horrible. The way that the world is taken over is way too easy and without any complications. The shinigami king decides to make Light and L invulnerable to the Death Note, which makes absolutely no sense. The author wants you to root for Light and L, and justfies their actions. I read this to the end to see where it went, and I was not happy with it. Even though I know the author is probably not going to do this, I was rooting for Sayu, Near, and Halle to end up defeating Kira.
