Sailor Moon has never been this manly.

Celestial Warrior Moon is a true rarity among Sailor Moon fanfics. It decides to do its own thing right from the get go and never looks back. Now, unlike most “Alternate” Universe Sailor Moon fanfics, this doesn’t just make due with giving Usagi a secret Mary Sue sister or any nonsense like that. No, this is an entirely new retelling of the original. It’s exciting and mature. And by “mature”, I mean it handles itself in a mature manner. Fight scenes and descriptions are nicely detailed. The monsters are a lot more menacing. Of course, the author uses Creepypasta monsters, so that’s kind of a given. Another area is diverges from the anime and manga is that the villains actually work together to accomplish common goals instead of having the Big Bad send out one Dragon at a time to gather energy or collect Pure Hearts. The minions are actually working together and trying to accomplish something here. Another nice break is that Reality Ensues. The monsters leave bodies and property damage, the police get involved, and the stress is starting to show signs of wearing on our heroines. As for the central characters: they’re a lot more like actual warriors. They’re not stressed in school uniforms and wielding sticks and tiaras. They’re fully armored Ladies of War. The author has also take steps to introduces the Sensei/Warriors before they actually join the ranks. That also applies to Tuxedo Mask, who’s called Phantom Mask in this retelling. He’s an actual fighter with a sword ala Sailor Moon CS. No rose throwing or cheesy one liners for this Mamoru. Then there’s the primary point of divergence: the introduction of The Keepers. They’re basically The Men In Black if they’d be formed by surviving Moon Kingdom subjects. In all, this fic has a lot of offer, so give it go. Alternate Universes might not be your thing, but if they are, then this is certainly a read well worth your time. 8/10.
