The fact it's a fanwork does not detract from this in the slightest, though you might rage a bit over the aliens, it all ultimately works out quite well and is easily worthy of the time to read it. The author was good enough to get noticed by Loren L. Coleman and seemed about to turn pro, before he disappeared in the midst of writing the sequel.
