While his popularity moves up his videos decline in effort

=3 how low have you sunk. Ray's parts videos are forced while the only laughs you get are from the videos that are not his. His attempt at humor falls flat on its face almost constantly and his fans eat it up. It's obvious that his content stealing and childish humor is what gets him his fans. Taking humorous videos and adding unneeded and adding unfunny commentary is the basic format of each episode with little change what so ever. If you watched one of his videos you've seen them all. The sad part is that he used to be entertaining when the show was "Capital Hill Gangsta" adding insightful commentary of political happenings. What he is now seems like what he will be until the show ends which is very hard to foresee seeing as he basically gets paid for stealing videos.

Criticism of the work or series is perfectly legitimate in a review, but I don't think having a go at its fans is on.

It depends though. How many fans are there, and how many frequently visit this website?

Enough for it to currently be the most subscribed channel on Youtube. And even if that wasn't the case, are seriously saying we should have a "let's make fun of these people for liking stuff we don't because they probably won't hear about it" attitude? If we were talking about honest-to-god fans of say, Sonichu, it would be different, but Equals Three is a legitimate case of YMMV.

I am not one of his blind fanboys, though I do like rays videos. I keep hearing that he steals ideas from other people. I am not going to doubt that at all, but a little proof that he steals peoples ideas would be nice.

Not ideas, videos. The complaint is he makes his living showing off other people's stuff, and the people who's videos he uses aren't compensated. If MST 3 K has to pay royalties for the movies they watch, it's only fair RWJ should have to pay the people who's videos he makes fun of.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Content stealing I would say is fair game, because to a lot of youtube citizens, a major problem is that they don't know whats out there. He provides the service of scanning youtube and presenting the interesting bits to the people who don't have the time/knowledge/contacts to trawl properly. And whether he selects the rights ones is what his success depends upon, so I guess for most people he selects the right stuff.

It's a bit sad that the people who made the stuff don't profit as much as him, but to be honest, most of the people watching =3 probably will either have seen it already when it went viral or would never have seen it in the first place. At least by linking to them he probably creates a small (or not so small with his amount of subscribers) viewer spike on the videos he chooses

But he mocks these clips mercilessly, so unless people are seeking out low-quality content no one's going to visit these people's channels. It's akin to suggesting someone would want to watch Manos The Hands Of Fate unriffed after seeing the MST 3 K version. And, as you mentioned, he selects the best bits, meaning no one's going to seek these people out if everything else isn't going to measure up.

I'm not saying they should get paid, but at the very least he should ask before he uses the clips. (He might, but I assume if he did that already people wouldn't accuse him of stealing.)

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Whether we should isn't the point. But we do tend to have that attitude, as shown by your example of Sonichu.

"But he mocks these clips mercilessly, so unless people are seeking out low-quality content no one's going to visit these people's channels."

He only mocks the clips in which people do really stupid stuff. I've watched many of his videos and he usually says that the clips are funny and worth checking out. And he's way funnier than Shane Dawson by the way.

@Wackd (By the way I've got something cool to finish this, so if you want, skip the first free points and head down to the bottom. It's really cool!)

1. I've checked out channels after seeing them on =3 and I'm not even an 3 regular. Also I wasn't thinking "I must support this person now I've watched his content or "I must justify =3 content stealing so I can win a future internet debate" it was just one of those things. He often doesn't show the full clip, or the full story so to get that you need to click on the links he provides.

2. He doesn't often mock the videos as the guy above me says, he does sometimes, but when he does mock them he tends to be mocking them for the reason people are watching them. If it's a clip of someone falling down the stairs he mocks the dude for falling down the stairs. But that's exactly why people are watching it and it only makes the clip more exciting to them, it definitely doesn't put people off checking it out.

The only ones he mocks negatively are the ones he calls out as fake, and most of the time they are, viral videos or attention seeking, so the person who created the content has already got his reward. Even more than that, an accusation of fake can be even more attractive.

3. Also said above, he frequently tells people to check the guys channels out, because there is even more stuff on it.

  • COOL STUFF*!!!

Drum roll please... and what can be cooler.. cooler than a polar bear...cooler than a cucumber... cooler than -isn't a polar bear cooler than a cucumber anyway?...

GRAPHS! [1] First of all, check out the top rated comment "Thumbs up if your here because of rwj[=3 dude]" Secondly, click on that wonderful graph button E-A are all the points where =3 referred people to the video and as you can see, it caused a huge rise in views :D

Thanks for clarifying that. I was wondering what People mean't when saying that he steals other peoples ideas, but apparently they mean't to say videos.

Also, if your worried about people not paying attention to the videos he use's, I think that sometimes he actually gets those videos more attention. Because of ray, I got introduced to Dcigs and gabrieal igleasias, and boy, I can't thank him enough for showing me those two comediec geniuse's, so I guess in a way he doe's people more good then harm, at least in my eyes.
