My Review

When I was first introduced to Jack's work, I was disturbed by it and didn't want anything to do with it. But after a while, I warmed up to his work, and now he's one of my favorite musicians!

• His Music
  • Jack's style is hard to describe, but I've always classified it as Indie Pop. His early work (like Finite Form,) really reminds me of Yo Gabba Gabba! and is really great considering that he was only 16 at the time. I'm not really a huge folk music person, but from what I've heard from it Viator is equally great. Pop food is really when he started to grow into his current style, with songs like Buttercup becoming viral on the internet. Hilo, my favorite album, has many genre shifts and great vocals! He may be hard to understand at times due to the way he sings his lyrics, but they're still great nonetheless. Before him, the closest thing to his music I knew was Yo Gabba Gabba! and They Might Be Giants (They're great too, check them out.) but this blew them out of the water.
• His art
  • This what turned me off from his work initially, due to the Unintentional Uncanny Valley in his Claymation style. But once you get used to it, you'll see how much effort was put into his art and animations. And the VHS filter on his videos? Not a filter, it's made with actual VHS tapes. If that isn't amazing, I don't know what is. And the art in OPAL is incredible.

  • Jack is an extraordinary artist that's worth the listen and the watch.
