An alright premise but it misses the point of One Piece

The retired Roger Pirates showing up to stop Ace's execution is a pretty neat idea. And Buggy being New World level is hardly new. But then you have just the constant angst where nearly everyone either has heavy PTSD, is constantly drowning their sorrows, or both. Not to mention treating injuries that in canon are minor things (such as a concussion) as potentially life threatening and resulting in weeks of recovery. Remember that from Luffy setting sail to the time-skip was only a few months. Each of the Straw Hats suffered what would be permanently crippling, if not outright fatal, injuries irl in that time. Several times over in fact. And yet, they're all just fine. Nine times out of ten, the couple days at the end of an arc is enough to heal up everything for the next arc. But nah, let's act like you have to be in an ICU and on painkillers for weeks instead because we need that drama!

Canon Shanks: Considered fighting in the Eddy War a great adventure despite his young age and teased Buggy about being afraid. Pointedly doesn't care if he's disrespected (literally his first scene in the manga and anime)

This Shanks: Hasn't been sober since he was ten because of how traumatized he is. Still crying ten years later that Mihawk won't fight him anymore. Bitches that the Roger pirates don't respect him enough.

Also, it's really hard to take Shanks and Yasopp's outrage on their sons' behalf remotely seriously when both abandoned said sons a decade prior to continue their careers as pirates and clearly had no problem with them sailing Paradise, which is a death trap for the vast majority of crews. "How dare Kuma send our kids to islands to become stronger!" but also "They're not ready for the New World!" Well, which is it? Because they need that training to get stronger and be ready for the New World. Not to mention the powerscaling makes no sense. Buggy insists you shouldn't even enter Paradise if your crew doesn't know haki, even though it's repeatedly shown that haki is basically unheard of outside of the New World (and upper ranks of the Marines). Or that Buggy is strong enough to kill an admiral, but was absolutely terrified of Bell-mere... who still got killed by Arlong. If Bell-mere is so strong in this story, why didn't she wipe out the entirety of Arlong's crew by herself? Spare her entire archipelago eight years of torment.

Finally, the Roger Pirates only exist for the author to have absolutely everyone rag on them for mourning their captain. Crocus and Rayleigh get completely rewritten so they're just a pair of losers who can't move on, and the rest of their crew is tarred with the same brush.
