So real, so human.

Brigadoon is a fascinating, un-quantifiable masterpiece, truly an underrated classic of Studio Sunrise's library and my personal favorite creation of Yoshitomo Yonnetani. The amount of empathy it made me feel for its characters is indescribable. Yet, none of the emotions felt forced, with the show's stellar writing and fantastic pacing, every dialogue exchange felt realistic and great. Speaking of its fantastic pacing, Brigadoon is one of few 26 episode anime I can say truly doesn't seem to have a single episode is filler. There is no pointless episodes in Brigadoon, as every episode introduces new, fascinating characters, the status quo is constantly changing, and by the halfway point nearly every episode ends with a cliffhanger. It's incredibly easy to binge, a joyous watch I'd recommend it to any anime fan...

Having dropped it 11 episodes in, I would disagree and say that the angst/tragedy was forced. I saw no need for Melan to suffer as much as she did, as the only effect that it had was reinforcing her need for a protector. It was not to spur any character development on her part. You can argue that her character development was that she found that she didn\'t have to be alone, but much of that was forced, like the time her friend tried to give her money to help her out and she was like \"I never befriended you for your money\" and then took off. Then there\'s also that police officer that bullied a 10 year old girl because he thought she had something to do with the aliens.

Having seen Kurata\'s other work, I can safely say that this pattern of one dimensional angst is no coincidence.
