Besides being gorgeously illustrated,WITCH nicely blends fantasy with reality. The girls may have been brought together by magic, and they do become friends, but some of them have trouble accepting their powers at first, Irma misuses her powers, and there's friction between Will and Cornelia in the beginning. Each of the girls are also relatable and have fleshed out personalities and hobbies. The villains are interesting and powerful. The girls' powers, while being based on elements and not unique in that regard, are unique in giving each girl a variety of other powers as well.

The only problem is that many things are introduced without an explanation. For example, the girls are always meeting new magical creatures and people on Earth and even have to make a school to teach all the magical children popping up, yet no explanation is given for all this random magic and why it's on Earth of all places. The girls are also always discovering new powers yet we have no idea what the limits are and how much secondary powers they each have. There's also no backstory for the early villains.

Despite all this, WITCH is wonderful and a great read.
