I don't like the manga, but this story takes the characters, especially Akane (whom I am normally not a fan of) and makes them likable in both a good and believable way. The dramatic moments are very strong, and are always inserted at the right time and don't feel dragged out. Honestly, my only problem is that the sequel never got off the ground.
