Conclusion first: Big monster look great and act like big monsters. Great introduction and buildup to the big monster vs monster fight. But the rest of the movie is pretty boring.
I didn't really care about the characters, there's plenty of plotholes and fridge logic, etc. etc.
In short, it's a monster movie where the monsters are great, but they're only in maybe 10% of the film. another 10% is decent build-up and teasing of the monsters. The other 80% is... forgettable.
