A story about Lelouch being put in the position of Subaru, the protagonist of Re:Zero. We get a good look into how Lelouch feels after he finds himself alive in a new world, and how he adapts to life without having to take over the world for the sake of peace. Lelouch in this story just wants to live a peaceful life now that his work is done, but he has assassins, cults, and a very powerful and obsessed Witch to deal with first. And it's wonderful. The author has a good grasp of not just Lelouch's personality, but also those of the characters in Re:Zero, and plays them off each other very well. Lelouch, for all his intelligence is still new to this world, so he doesn't win every social encounter immediately. For example, his second meeting with Crusch has him on the ropes because he's not familiar enough with the history of the kingdom yet. Return By Death helps him gather information and be more prepared in the event of his death, and he uses it often early on when learning the basics of magic, but it doesn't help all the time, and Lelouch knows it. All in all, it's a very good read and I highly recommend it.
