General Review

Fairy Tail is a bad Manga full stop. There are a lot of issues that pile up onto each other to create the mess that is Fairy Tail. This Manga's high moments are only about average and its low moments are pure nonsense.

I feel like talking about the characters would take too much of this review. It is kinda missing the forest for the trees.

Fairy Tail is a manga about the magical guild called Fairy Tail. The main cast of characters is Natsu, Gray, Erza, Lucy. The rest of the side characters get lost in the shuffle. This would not be a problem if Hiro didn't bring them and do nothing with them. Or worst mishandles them like Markov one of the worst father figure characters because he makes bad decisions that hurt the guild for no reason or when he fights it goes two ways he kills an unimportant goober or he gets knocked on his ass.

An example of how poorly Hiro handles his characters is Elfman vs Bacchus this was a big fight for Elfman He had to struggle and it felt like he earned that win and so Elfman looked cool. Baccus then proceeds to lose every other match he has... and some in a comedic fashion. It lessens Elfman's moment because he had a hard time against a character that now looks like a weakling.

Then there is Lisnanna Elfman's little sister who does nothing of note aside from being a member of Natsu's Harem especially since she comes back from the dead kinda. (I don't have room for the longer explanation). She was better dead. Also, Elfman is one of the better cases.

Another core problem is Friendship. Fairy Tail is one of the worst cases of Friendship is Power Because FRIENDSHIP IS LITERALLY POWER. That is awful, I mean it is terrible storytelling device. In most series, friendship inspires the heroes to grow stronger because I want to protect my friend so I will get back up for them. In "Fairy Tail" having Friends means you win. That is a real mechanic and you have Villian groups who are not friends because they didn't the memo. The real problem is friendship directly linked to power is shallow and empty.

Its next biggest problem is the blatant emotional manipulation Media is meant to trick us into feeling but, a skilled writer hides the trick. Hiro does these poorly constructed sad or emotional moments that don't work because things just suddenly happen out of nowhere and you are then asked to care or worst yet revealed with no weight.

You can have a weak plot with strong characters and be great. You can have weak characters if your plot or setting is strong. Fairy Tail fails because it has neither.

Your review brings up some valid points, such as fights being won by the Power of Friendship, and some potentially interesting characters being underused. Unfortunately, many of the points are poorly elaborated upon, which makes it harder to accept if you don\'t already agree with them (for example, you don\'t explain why the emotional moments come off as manipulative), and vaguely sounds as though you\'re parroting others\' opinions. The poor spelling, punctuation and grammar also makes it more difficult to take the review seriously.

Essentially, you\'re not wrong, and you have some points I agree with, but all in all, the review itself was poorly written, which makes it less convincing.

Thank you. I put a part of the blame on 3000 characters and I did want to be brief. I did once through with Grammarly it said I had like 24 advanced errors left but I didn't think it would be that big of a deal. Edit looked over it now down 14 errors.

One scene that is poorly done is Wendy's Guild. Spoiler if you care,

They are an illusion who were there to keep wendy happy and now that she has friends in fairy tail they have to go now. This was never foreshadowed it comes out of nowhere, and it serve no purpose except you will feel sad. There are also minor logic problems like how did they feed her.

MaxCream,

The Cait Shelter twist has some foreshadowing- from the beginning, they\'re the most obscure and mysterious of the allied guilds (particularly sending only one young girl and her Exceed companion), yet Brain targets them first. While Nirvana is approaching, they lament not being able to do anything (since they\'re illusions and Robaul is a ghost), but Robaul indicates that it\'s time to account for their sins, which clearly indicates that they\'re linked to the Nirvit Tribe. All this is subtle but makes more sense in hindsight, so while it\'s good that you provided an example, you could have chosen a better one.
