Similar to it's Namesake

Inuyasha the series is much like Inuyasha the character. It's hot-blooded but takes a while to do the obvious thing. Sometimes this combination of treats is endearing, sometimes it's infuriating.

Inuyasha was one of the few Shonen I watched as a young girl, and it hasn't really aged well, though it is still enjoyable in my opinion.

The series is rather cliche in a lot of ways. It's pretty upon hearing the premise that they are eventually going to stop the evil Naraku, and you know how the love triangle is going to conclude (hint, main character). So much of it is just foregone conclusion. That isn't something that bothers me honestly, many of my favorite stories are cliche-ridden.

No the big problem is this series is way longer then it has any right to be. You could cut the episode number in half and be fine. It doesn't help that it seems like no progress against Naraku is EVER being made. Long series can get away with having the same antagonist if it at least FEELS like their is progress. The pacing just feels so slow.

Besides that, I'm not a huge fan of Kagome. She ranges from angsy to being tolerably boring.

On the bright side the two big Dog Demons, Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru were fun. Inuyasha is a pretty recognizable Anime Protagonist, and even if he is annoying at times, I found him pleasant enough to watch. Sesshoumaru's character redemption is perhaps the sole good thing that came from the series being as long as it (though I would still say you can do the same thing in a much shorter time). Sesshoumaru as the antihero gets by far the most interesting character development in the series, similar to Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z, and his general arc of becoming good is the most interesting thing.

Some other good things I will say are that alot of the big fights are entertaining to watch (very important for a Shonen), particularly because many of the weapons and powers in Inuyasha are rather interesting. Even in the far more rapid-paced and crazy ability using Shonen of today, abilities like Zeido Mangetsuha and Bakusaiga's Posion ability would feel right at home.

It's a fun series, if only it was shorter and the Heroine had a more likable personality.

3/5
