Not my cup of tea

Let's be honest here, I'm really annoyed about the fans praised the show like no tomorrow so I decided to do a harsher review of it. Despite this, it doesn't affect my opinions toward the series. And this is my review for the anime adaptation.

Let’s start off with what I liked about the show. The opening is awesome, though I don’t get some parts of the opening. The action scenes are the main highlight of the show. It’s animated and directed pretty well. I also find Ikki’s journey to be rather satisfying despite the animated series only adapt three volumes.

But that’s the end of what I enjoyed about it, now onto what I disliked about it. I honestly think the writing is rather weak. For example, there’s Shizuya decided to tell the spectators that Ikki is a loser, they all laugh and side with Shizuya except for Ikki’s friend and imouto. It probably would go like some spectators would side with Shizuya and nobody laugh. But fiction doesn’t equal real life. Next up is the fact that why Ayase’s dad choose to accept Kuraudo’s challenge. Even as a rule, is there someone out of their mind to bet a freaking dojo?! There wasn’t a good reason behind it either!

Another problem I have with the series I have is the characters. I don’t really care about most characters that much. I don’t care about Stella all that much as she is a fanart bait doesn’t have that much focus for me to care. I don’t care about Ikki’s icky sister. I don’t care about Alice, nor that I care he’s a trans. In fact, the only character that I cared that isn’t Ikki is Ayase. And there’s the fact that the author loves to introduce Jerkass for the first three volumes (arc). I know some peoples can be jerks, but jeez.

And I’m not a big fan of the visual either, it’s not the worst, it’s just not appealing. One of the worst examples has to be where there ae only one color contrasts with a mostly monochrome scene, problem is, the color that contrasts look horrendous. Ugh, that blue hat.

Overall, I enjoyed some of the show has to offer. But I hated the flaws that the show has. I can see why people liked the show, though I can’t see why they liked it so much. I don’t think it’s a show that I can recommend to anyone. It is one of the better Light Novel adaptation, but there are much better shows around here. (Yes, I did watch Asterisk Wars. I just felt I shouldn’t be comparing these two.)

Yes, I did watched Asterisk Wars. I just felt I shouldn’t be comparing these two.

But that\'s the only real reason to watch either show, specifically because of how they\'re the exact same series and premise. Then you compare and see which one did a certain trope better. Neither are particularly worth watching without such a uniquely surreal experience.
