Emotionally Unsatisfying

Methods isn't a *bad* story. It's written well, the characters are consistent, there are no obvious mistakes.

It just isn't a *good* story.

When I read a fanfic, I'm looking for an emotional adventure. I read about these characters, not because they're interesting, but because they engender an emotional attachment that lets me adventure, too.

Methods has none of that. Heart is replaced by brain - which, yes, is the point of the fic, but he's gone too far. There is no heart left. Instead we have characters that could be best played by robots, with cold mechanical pumps where their hearts once were.

And yes, that can be interesting, but so is a wikipedia article, and I don't read wikipedia articles for the adventure and excitement.

If you are interested in the ideas this fic espouses, read the wikipedia article on Rationality. Maybe pick up a few physics textbooks along the way. You'll learn more, waste less time, and be just as bored as you would be reading this fic.

I am sorry to say, but I think might be more of a \"you\" problem than the fic\'s fault. Not every type of story is for everyone, and if you didn\'t like this one, it\'s your call, but going as far as espousing things like \"it is not a good story because I like emotional adventures and this wasn\'t one\" like it was an objective fault is a little silly in my opinion.

Not that it makes your review pointless, mind you. If there are other people with your preferences, they might be able to gauge how much they would like this story and whether they would dedicate a couple of dozen hours of their lives to reading through all 2k pages.

That said, if there was something I would strongly disagree with here, it would be assertion that there is no \"heart\" or \"emotion\" in this story. I found these characters more relatable than their canon counterparts. I laughed with them, cried with them and I was sitting at the edge of my seat whenever something really dangerous was going on. So no, I respectfully but firmly disagree with you. There is a lot of heart and emotion here. There is less whimsy and magic (in the \"wonderment\" sense of the word) here, but it doesn\'t mean it contains any less emotions than its canon counterpart.
