Monster Hunter Lite and that's okay

I'll admit it - I tried Monster Hunter once and decided never again. So I was a little hesitant to pick up and try this game.

But actually... it's pretty decent. It takes the hunting part of Monster Hunter and uses Final Fantasy tweaks in a way that is relatively intuitive. Explorers adds different (very familiar) job classes, weapons, and magic / skills from Final Fantasy's history. This all works in the game's favor. Running low on HP? Just use Cura / Regen. Having a hard time with a boss? Switch to a spellcaster class to try long-ranged combat. There are tons of options and combinations to explore and experiment with. This also makes combat more exciting and fast-paced than simply waiting and figuring out a monster's behavior.

Additionally you can catch and level up monsters through encasing which works well if you aren't on Wifi looking for partners. They level fast and can outpace your own character pretty quickly.

There is a grind element to the game with regard to getting equipment and weapons. It's less frustrating than Monster Hunter and you can increase your chances of getting a rare item by making quests harder. You can choose from different challenges including less defense, less time, no items, etc.

So all in all... not bad. It will keep you busy without too much time investment.
