Planetside 1: A Deeply Flawed Gem

I'm going to sound like nut, and I am, but dam I feel the need to talk about this game. Planetside 1 (PS1) is dead game and I continue to play it in its dead state. The game is plagued with issues such as nonexistent pops, hackers, bad balance (i.e: the NC specific equipment is inferior to its TR/VS counterparts), bugs, some questionable mechanics, meh gunplay, lacking in longer term depth, and more.

Yet despite all these problems, I continue to play it from time to time. Why? For starters the soundtrack kicks ass. I love the fact that the game is entirely focused on the infantry grunt (but it leans in favor of them). When we actually have pops, I love taking out a tank and murdering the opposition. The atmosphere is amazing as well, which the amazing music helps. Dam I feel like in Auraxis at times. The game has plenty of short term depth to keep me interested, though I'd like if there had been more longer term depth. The factions are pretty diverse, even if the NC is shorthanded. There's a great deal of weapon and vehicle variety, though many of it is made obsolete by Heavy Assault and the Reaver. I also like that the game is slower paced, esp. as I'm slow minded. There's many tasks you can do in this game, increasing it's longer term appeal. Faction loyalty is strong, despite my own misgivings about mine. It has kickass immersion. And more. This game is not like anything I've played before. It has personality and soul. I'm too into the game to quit, for better or worse.

However given all this, I can't recommend to game in its current state. Maybe if this project ever takes off: http://psforever.net/forum/ , I'd recommend it and the game can have some relevance. In the mean timem hold on or hep us out. I'd really appreciate it.

You can try out Planetside 2, but I find it more lacking than PS1 (to put it mildly).

Sorry if this is a shitty review, it's my first one and 400 words is not enough.
