I'm a sucker for amnesia stories of any kind, so I especially loved a chance to see how the trope would play out in the Supernatural universe. The is-he-or-isn't-he-Dean-omg-please-tell-me-now mystery was a brilliant twist that had me scrolling through the chapters as fast as I could. The way Dean(or not) deals with it himself is fascinating, straight up great characterization. It was uncomfortable having the heart of Dean's identity and his relationship with Sam turned on it's head and called into question, but of course that conflict makes for some delicious story telling. The ending gave me a deep sense of satisfaction and catharsis- this is how I WISHED season 4 ended! - which is kinda the whole point of writing fanfiction in the first place. The bonds of brotherly love being vindicated after all the doubt and winning the day had me tearing up, I must admit. My only quibble is the mystery of Dean's identity resolved a little bit anti-climatically for me- (and shouldn't he have already figured it out because of what Alistair said anyway?)- but whatever, I ultimately got what I wanted. Just let me bask in the afterglow of an SPN AU with a (totally earned) happy ending. *sigh*~
