Mediocre

My sister and I watched this movie one Sunday because it looked interesting and there was nothing else on TV. I enjoy Ontological Mysteries in films such as Cube and Dark City, so I enjoyed the film at first, where our ragtag protagonists (and antagonists) find themselves kidnapped and forced to work together to figure out why they have been kidnapped. Every hour a masked man shoots one of them, meaning that they have less information to work with. The characters were varied and interesting, including a Cop, an attorney, four criminals, a Priest, a Chinese woman (who doesn't speak english) and a business man. I won't spoil the film but while it starts off fine the big revelation was quite uninspired and the last half an hour of the film honestly feel like the writers had no clue where to go with the plot. There is a cheap ploy twist at the end, nine characters actually do die (so at least the title is honest) and the movie ends very abruptly. Maybe the TV version was shortened but the film felt like it ended about 5 minutes early, but honestly by then I didn't really care anymore. While interesting at first, this movie quickly devolved into a rather dumb film, with an ending that felt like the writers just went "screw it" because they couldn't figure out a decent ending. I'll give this movie a 4/10, because as dumb as it is, I'll bet with a decent director, a B-list actor starring and a better ending this film could have been pretty good.
