It is incredible. The first half of the book gets stranger and stranger and leads down a twisting path that seems like it will go nowhere. Then, quickly but very slowly and subtly you (and the protagonist) come to find that you were so very wrong. The next part of the book describes the very real and very true consequences of living in the environment she did and just what happens when you are raised like that only to see your tenuous reality shatter. I reccomend it all the way.
