What if the White Lotus never took Korra from the South Pole? What if an ideologist named Noatak had instead? This fic describes Korra's teen life as the adoptive daughter of Noatak, and her role as Tanchu, the daughter of Amon. When Korra attempts to save a young earthbender and his firebender brother from being knifed to death by a furious Noatak, she unleashes her Avatar state, setting up the scene for arguably one of the most moving Korra fanfics that has been ever written.
Pulpofiction's style of writing is extraordinarily professional; certain parts of the fanfic read like they've been written by professionals. Pulpofiction's plentiful use of literary devicesm, such as the present tense and the streams of consciousness that occasionally intervene mid-sentence, are used fantastically. The characterisation of the Season 1 characters is amazing, too: while Noatak is the villain, you cannot help but feel sympathetic towards him.
This story has unbelievable ups and downs: one moment Noatak is treating Korra to the zoo, the next he's bloodbending Mako into temporarily murdering Bolin with applied lightning. The sheer cognitive dissonance in the author's portrayal of Noatak is amazing, and produces a great adapation of a canon character. I was kind of feeling more sorry for Noatak than Korra by the events of the latest chapter; and with the final chapter currently in writing I can promise you it is going to be an emotional doozy.
