Nearly Note Perfect

This movie is a homage to classic science-fiction movies of the past, and it shows. The work is riddled with clever nods and references to old science fiction movies.

The few minor complaints I have is that, aside from Ginormica, the other monsters aren't really used as much. Which makes sense, as Ginormica has pretty much won the Super Power Lottery. In comparison, we've got Dr. Cochroach, who's a Mad Scientist, B.O.B who's stretchy and pretty much indestructible, and then there's Link, who's strong, and can swim, which isn't really that impressive compared to Ginormica, a fact that the movie continually lampshades. Until the end, Link doesn't really get any chance to shine, but it's not much.

Apart from that, the characters are witty and the story is engaging, though I did roll my eyes a little at the DDR security system and Dr. C having a 'PHD in dance' to beat it. I enjoyed this movie immensely, have watched it multiple times and will probably watch it again in the future.

I disagree. I've watched this film a couple of times and I found it to be merely middling, neither good nor bad. Just okay.

In fact, the only DreamWorks CGI animated movies that I consider to be truly great are Antz, Shrek, Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2 and How To Train Your Dragon. Haven't seen HTTYD's sequel yet but I will at some point, maybe next year on DVD. (I don't count the movies DreamWorks made with Aardman as DreamWorks movies, by the way).

However, all the other DreamWorks CGI animated movies that I've seen (Shark Tale, Over The Hedge, the Madagascar films, Shrek The Third, Bee Movie, Monsters vs. Aliens, Shrek Forever After) didn't entertain me much. Yes, even the Madagascar trilogy, which are passable and mildly enjoyable movies but suffer from big narrative flaws, weren't my cup of tea. I haven't yet seen Megamind, Puss In Boots, Rise Of The Guardians, The Croods, Turbo or Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and have almost no interest in any of them. However, I'm definitely looking forward to Kung Fu Panda 3 next year. I just hope it isn't a huge disappointment like Shrek The Third was. In fact, KPD 3 may be the last DreamWorks movie I'll ever see, purely because I loved the first two and want to see where the story goes. I'm counting on you, DreamWorks. Don't screw it up! ;)
