I never played the Sonic or Mega Man video games as a kid; going into Worlds Collide, pretty much all I knew came from watching the various animated series. That turned out to be more than enough background to really enjoy the crossover. That's not to say that there aren't a ton of inside jokes, but most of them don't distract from the story. Sonic and Mega Man work great as semi-foils while Wily and Eggman might be the greatest villain OTP of all time. Worlds Collide is well worth a look no matter your experience with either franchise.
