Not Your Usual Power Rangers Rip-Off

Power Rangers imitations were a dime a dozen back in the days when the show was popular- and they were usually terrible. If Rangers was just Super Sentai material with spliced-in American made mediocre scenes, at least it had some charm, but the rip-offs were flat and sometimes just dumb.

Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters was unique, and not only for being completely made on this side of the Pacific, but for actually being *surprisingly* well-written. It made more sense storywise than Rangers ever did; it even had a kind of tragic angle to it in the fact that the previous Sentinels were killed (and their mentor's homeworld destroyed). The fact the main characters did not get along at first also made them more interesting than the more "White Bread" Rangers were. The villains were more than caricatures as well.

It is a pity the show had such crappy special effects and costumes (for the most part) because it must have been a turn off for many when compared to the neater ones from Japan the other shows had (their only good quality.) It is now long forgotten, but maybe someday it will be rediscovered and become the cult classic it deserves to be.
