This is one of the first MLP:Fi M fanfics I ever read. Most of it unfolds in journal format, and the story it tells is deeply moving. Its well written and its very easy to get swept along in the story. There's really one one problem with this story, but its a dozy.
This isn't a story about Rarity, at least not the Rarity from Friendship is Magic. This is Somber's vision of Rarity, and she doesn't line up with her canon counterpart very well. The backstory presented here clashes with everything we were told about Rarity in her very first appearance. There simply isn't a good way to reconcile the mare who wrote this journal with the Rarity who told Twilight Sparkle "Canterlot?!? Oh, I am so envious! The glamour, the sophistication! I have always dreamed of living there! I can’t wait to hear all about it."
If you want a dark tale about a pony who grew up to be the Element of Generosity this is worth your time. But if you're looking for the show's Rarity you should probably look elsewhere.
