All due respect, it is my understanding that YMMV is meant to be fairly opinionated. Other works like Twilight have huge YMMV sections filled to the brim with complaints and criticisms. While I admit I do have a bit of a bias against this series, I don't see why some of my examples needed to be removed. Namely, Alternative Character Interpretation (perhaps it was overly scathing, but so are a lot of uses of that trope), Ensemble Darkhorse (I've seen a few Darkhorses who were more popular with critics than fans), and Arc Fatigue (seriously, I don't know what series you were reading, but in the one I read, the bulk of the first seven chapters was spent on Teppei wangsting about his plagiarism, and the status quo only changed a couple times).

Also, would it bother anyone if I added Mis Blamed? Because I keep seeing people complaining about the "plagiarism controversy" as if the plagiarism was the sole thing anyone ever had a problem with.

This page has been the grounds of an Edit War for months now. It has been entirely removed and recreated several times already (both for being overly positive and overly negative). I suggest you put this in "Ask the Tropers" to see if you can figure this out with mods or something. Fan Myopia being removed without explanation is good for your case actually.

It reminds me of how Samurai 8's YMMV was similarly altered by fans to remove every negative trope. Considering that the series was recently and very early cancelled, it's sometimes wise to make concessions for the Viewers in Mourning and have a healthy balance of negative and positive YMMV tropes, or at least wait a few weeks/months before adding the most negative tropes.

Hi, sorry to reply this late, but here's the reason those entries were removed:

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Sounded much more like a full blown Ron the Death Eater, as it turned the protagonist into a pure evil person
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: it said to belong to a single, small site, and related to the haters, a too small pool to count (if there are similar examples in other place, then those examples are wrong)
  • Arc Fatigue: Are you kidding? Since it began, everyone noted how fast it moved, dashing through plot points and presentation. There was much more than "Teppein angst". In fact, I should say the series would've been better if it went slower so we could get used to one status quo, instead of changing it the next chapter
  • Mis-blamed: Not only it doesn't fit the trope, but is more of a complaint toward those who liked the series, and sounds like saying "those who like the series are completely wrong". Just like the previous fandom myopia entry

"There was so much more than 'Teppei angst'", he asserts without giving examples. I certainly don't remember there being a whole lot outside of that in the first half.

  • First chapter: Teppei wants to be in Jump. He can't please Kikuse. He has a flashback showing how much he wants to be in Jump. He's about to give up on his dreams when White Knight Ex Machina appears. He plagiarizes it thinking it was a dream, and gets in Jump that way. Also, Aino sees what he did.
  • Second chapter: Teppei realizes it wasn't a dream. He angsts over having committed plagiarism. He decides he has to quit. Muneoka convinces him, by first guilt tripping him and then showing him a big pile of fan mail, that continuing to plagiarize is the noble thing to do. Then, Aino appears.
  • Third chapter: Teppei angsts about stealing Aino's work. She chases him down and assaults him. She makes accusations. He tries to tell her the truth, but it isn't believable. Teppei angsts some more while the g-pen is inches from his face. He gets Aino to let him off the hook by making her sympathize with him.
  • Fourth chapter: Teppei tells himself what a noble thing he's doing by drawing White Knight. He gets three Living Prop assistants, and Aino is there too. Teppei angsts about her being there, before doubling down on the importance of him drawing White Knight. Then Aino praises the new chapter, and in a fit of angst, Teppei rips it up.
  • Fifth chapter: Everyone says What the Hell, Hero? while Teppei has a mental breakdown. Muneoka tells him to finish the chapter before the deadline. Teppei angsts some more. Aino tells him to draw White Knight his way. He does. Everyone loves his work.
  • Sixth chapter: Time skip. The monologue reminds us what the premise is. White Knight is cartoonishly popular. Several pages are spent showing how cartoonishly popular it is. Aino wins a Tezuka Award. They have a party. One of the assistants tries to convince the readers he's a real character. Teppei angsts a bit. But then, shocking swerve, the next future issue doesn't arrive.
  • Seventh chapter: (going entirely off memory because I don't have access to this chapter) Teppei angsts about what will happen if the next chapter doesn't come. He makes a fan fic chapter to fill the void(?). The next issue finally arrives, revealing Aino is going to die. Mirai says the only way to stop it is by continuing to plagiarize White Knight, making Teppei's actions totally justified up to this point.
I had the manga right in front of me while writing the first six of those summaries. Where was the "so much more" you spoke of? I didn't see it. All I saw was, just like every time I read this series, a very uneventful story about a self-loather with a martyr complex. All its potentially interesting plot points get glossed over, and any other characters besides Teppei and Aino are all but ignored. The first half of the series may not have literally been very long, but man did it feel long.

Also, I have no idea where you got the "status quo changes every chapter" bit. It barely changed at all in those chapters. Let's go down the list again.

  • Second chapter: Now Teppei knows he's plagiarizing, but he's going to keep doing it anyway. That's not much of a change.
  • Third chapter: Aino let Teppei off the hook. Now there's a second character. That's one.
  • Fourth chapter: Now Teppei has assistants, and Aino is officially his rival. That's two.
  • Fifth chapter: Teppei decides to draw White Knight his way. That's not a status quo change, that's a shonen power-up. It's no different from Deku figuring out what he has to do to beat an opponent.
  • Sixth chapter: There's a time skip, but the characters have the same dynamic, and the background characters love White Knight as much as they did before the time skip. The next chapter doesn't arrive, but that also isn't so much a status quo change as it is a cliffhanger.
  • Seventh chapter: Teppei has to keep plagiarizing, or Aino will die. That's three.
Three out of six chapters actually had a status quo change, and two of them weren't even that major. Even with those added characters, the series still focused almost exclusively on Teppei and his inner turmoil. Most of it really is just watching Teppei in his room doing his thing. Again, whatever you're seeing in this series, I don't see it, and I'm really starting to think it might not actually be there at all.

But, I could be wrong. Help me out here. Explain, in detail, exactly what you mean by "so much more" and "status quo changes every chapter". Give me your insight, o Prehistoric Pisces, let me into your world so that I may understand!

Actually, on second thought, forget it. Nobody's going to remember this series in a year anyway. Go ahead and give it as much benefit of the doubt as you wish, I have energy to expend elsewhere.

Yeah... that's why I didn't reply... you were a bit too obsessed on such a small series XD
