I'd like to dispute the Critical Research Failure for this page. Firstly, by saying that the British would not allow the Germans to invade one of their protectorates, it doesn't consider that the Egyptian military would try to fend off the Germans themselves, which has some very troubling racial implications. Secondly, the claim that Spielberg and Lucas screwed up from a historical perspective doesn't make sense: the Nazis can just say they're looking for a historical artifact and that the troops are there to protect the archaeologists from raiders. After all, militarized archaeological digs were a thing back in the late 19th and early 20th Century.
