Anti-Escapism Aesop: The game builds upon the twist of the second title that the world of Monkey Island is just the product of an overactive imagination borne from him enjoying a theme park a little too much. Except now he’s a bonafide adult mired in his fantasies once again.
I feel this is missing the point. If anything this has it backwards since it's Guybrush sharing his fantasies with his kid, passing the torch so to speak. And the 2nd game is retconned into having been his kid playing make believe based on the adventures his dad recounts to him.
