This becomes an interesting question for people who lived in what is now not-Germany but would have called themselves German. Or on the reverse people who did not consider themselves German but would be today...
I have a question. Does this page include German language writers who are German nationality. Can it include writers who wrote German but were Austrian or in the case of Kafka, Czech?
I think the likes of Robert Musil, Herrmann Broch (who was Austrian but his novel The Sleepwalkers is set in Berlin, Cologne, Mannheim and the Rhine border), Arthur Schintzler, Hugo von Hoffmansthal, Sigmund Freud ought to have a place here.
But that is just me. I understand if people don't want this to get too long, or keep it specific...
