I'm not sure the flashlights qualify as a break from reality?
Flashlights that you can recharge through physical motion are a real thing. You can literally order a flashlight that recharges by shaking in cases of emergency from Amazon for 20 bucks at the moment I'm writing this.
Those types of flashlights in real life are specifically intended for use in emergency situations where you might not have access to new batteries or a power-grid to recharge them.
I'm not sure how often you have to recharge those kind of flashlights but I don't think the amount of time you see Ellie or Joel using a flashlight without inerruption is outside the realms of possiblity. I could be wrong though!
