Do you all find that the tone here is a little heavy and distracting? I mean, we get the joke, but to me it seems to get in the way of the information.

Eh, maybe I'm a little biased being the writer and all, but it doesn't seem that much worse than the "Film Noir" page.
That said, I'm not gonna be particularly heartbroken if a rewrite is deemed necessary, but I'm guessing by the lack of activity in the six months since this was posted that it's either not deemed necessary or deemed important enough to worry about.
While I'm not going to edit it out, as it seems to be the bulk of the "subversions" section, note that "the detective is the killer!" has been disparaged as a twist since at least the 1920s. Unless you're playing with amnesia or some other reason why the detective doesn't know she's the killer, don't go down that road; it's a surefire way to turn your work into a wallbanger.
